Digital Photography Tips

Many of us have or will soon have (:-p) a digital camera. Here are some useful tips that I happen to have come across thanks to lifehack.

Finding Your Picture

Taking a picture does not mean you are forced to use that picture. Often times we overlook the pictures within our picture. Learning how to crop properly will help you to be able to explore your pictures and select the best. You will also learn how to correct your camera angles.
These two pictures are examples of how a person can select just the right part of a picture to make it look that much better.

Getting Closer to Your Subject

Often times we take pictures too far away from the subject. A simple tip is to move in a bit. This will help you capture more of your subject and less of other distractions.
See how in these examples it looks much better closer than at a further distance

Pixels

Too much of a good thing can't hurt right? Well when it comes to pixels this is true. Always use the highest quality settings and try to buy the most pixels you can afford. Memories happen just once, don't miss out just because your trying to save a few bytes of memory for later. One great picture is often worth more than multiple tacky ones.
These pictures below show that 2 similar photos can mean a difference of worlds when you use more pixels.

Take More Pictures

Don't just wait till a certain time to take a picture. Snap lots of pictures on your subjects so that way when you have a large selection to choose from. Often times somebody blinked, sneezed, looked away, or something of the sort which usually detracts from the picture. This is a great reason to take a lot of photos of your subjects.
See how all the other pictures were nice but the one in the center took the cake. Take multiple photos. Sometimes they will also help your viewers understand the subject better as well.

Tech TV Alternatives

I don’t know about the rest of you, but I CRINGED when G4 totally obliterated TechTv as we once knew it. I was feeling tech withdrawals for the longest times. We had TechTV for my freshman and sophomore year of high school, but once we moved we didn’t subscribe for a while. It was during this phase of my life that the evil overlords of G4 were planning to take over TTV. Well somewhere between the end of my junior and the beginning of my senior year the merger started to take place. That was about the same time we were getting our new house. We had also decided to sign up with dish a few months after we had bought the house. Well I had to coax my parents into getting the next level up on the programming list from Dish Network so that I could watch my beloved TechTV. However when we got everything running I sound found out much to my dismay that G4 had merged with TTV. Everything was in disorder the website was horrible the shows were changing and eventually G4 just booted everything or changed everything from the good ‘ol days. Ever since then the techies have been a little angry about G4 for doing this. But there are some alternatives. As far as TV programming there are a few shows back on G4 due to complaints of many fans but nothing like what it used to be. I just know this because of some emails that get sent to me. We discontinued our Dish Network programming and got DSL. WOOT!!! Yea….

Well anyway let's get down to business. Because there are not exactly a vast multitude of Tech shows out there here are a few good alternatives.
Shows include those such as; This Week In Tech (the old screensaver cast +a few extras), Digital Life- by Patrick Norton(Ex TSS host), Diggnation-by Kevin Rose and Alex Albrecht, and many many others.

iPod Earbuds

I don't know about everybody else but whenever I have a pair of headphones they ALWAYS and I mean ALWAYS seem to tangle up. It doesn’t matter if they are earbuds or if they are the regular headset type. They always seem to get tangled. I typically prefer earbuds because they are not as loud as headsets, thus they will not disturb the people around you. I have developed my own little way that you might find useful when it comes to keeping your headphones from tangling. This illustration is using the iPod ear buds that came with the iPod.

In this first illustration we see the iPod laying out with the headphones in a mess.

Step 1

Place the headphone connection on top of the back of the iPod approximately a little further than from the middle of the iPod.

Step 2

Flip the iPod over on to its front side and wrap the cord over like such. Then pin the cord down in between the screen and the click wheel.

Step 3

Then, hold the cord in place on both the front and the back and wrap the cord around as such.
If you leave a little bit of slack that will come out towards the screen, it will be useful in the end.

Step 4

Now continue to wrap it as such

Step 5

After you are about to the end of the cord pulll the slack that was left from Step 3 and slip the earbuds into the slack. Make sure they earbuds are secure because if they are loose then the cord will unravel and cause your headphones to tangle.

Final Product

Wow now if you followed the steps correctly and the earbuds are secured tightly then there shouldn’t be any worries of the cords unraveling or the headphones tangling. Here is what my iPod looked like after I finished the steps.

iPod Nano Tweaks, Tips, Tricks

Personally I don't like the Nanos, mainly because of their small storage. For only 50$ more I could get 5 times as much storage! Plus they scratch and or crack easily. However if you are one of those people that bought one, well then this little section is for you.

iPod Covers

Here is a site that gives you not only a template but some cool ideas for a DIY iPod Nano case.

Cleaning up your iPod

This is an awesome site! This site is about a guy that shows you how he managed to clean up all the scratches and restore his iPod Nano to almost a NEW CONDITION! The procedure may also be used with other iPods, not just with Nanos. However I strongly suggest you buy a cover for you iPod in the first place. I spent the extra 20$ for a good cover and it is really worth it!
